Do you love cracking jokes? Do you love to make people laugh? Do you think you have what it takes to be the next big stand-up comedy artist? Do you want to beat SC, get a job at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, and win $5,000 in Laugh Factory gift certificates? Then you must sign-up for the Laugh Bowl!! This event will take place on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm in Kerckhoff Grand Salon. The first part of The Laugh Bowl will determine who will represent UCLA in the ultimate comedy showdown. Students will vote for their favorite comedians. Four finalists will be chosen to face off against four of our rivals, the USC Trojans, at the World Famous Laugh Factory on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Tickets go on sale Saturday, October 3 at 10:00 a.m. for the general public, but the UCLA student presale for the concert will be from Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 10:00 a.m. to Friday, Oct. 2, at 10 p.m.. (Click here to purchase your tickets; there is a two ticket maximum.) 

Tickets for students with the UCLA password will be $10 less than the general public ticket prices. There are two price levels for floor seats $79.50 ($69.50 UCLA) and $69.50 ($59.50 UCLA). There will be no pit/stage area for the floor. Seats in the stands will be $35 ($25 UCLA).

Remember, you can still stop by the Central Ticketing Office (CTO) and purchase discounted tickets there with your BruinCard! Ticket sales open to the general public on October 3rd at 10:00 a.m. but you can still buy tickets with the UCLA discount until tickets completely sell out.

To get the student discount, get the presale ticket code under “Event Reservations” on MyUCLA starting Tuesday 9/29 at 9:00 a.m..

Gregg Michael Gillis, better known by his stage name Girl Talk, is an American musician. Gillis, who lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has released four LPs on the record label Illegal Art and EPs on 333 and 12 Apostles. He began making music while studying biomedical engineering at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He producesmashup-style remixes, in which he uses often a dozen or more unauthorized samples from different songs to create a new song; The New York Times Magazine has called his music “a lawsuit waiting to happen,” a criticism that Gillis has attributed to a mainstream media that wants “to create controversy where it doesn’t really exist,” citing fair use as a legal backbone for his sampling practices.
