A Moment With : Signature Acapella

Define your sound.

Signature takes pride in having a very diverse repertoire. We not only like to arrange and sing songs that we think our audiences will enjoy, but we also like singing songs we like as a group. The genres we sing can range from Indie Folk like Mumford & Sons’ “Lovers’ Eyes,” to Jazz like Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon,” to mainstream Pop like Chris Brown’s “Forever.” We have music that is perfect for everything from birthday parties to weddings, and we make sure to showcase our energy, powerful vocals, and spread our Signature love through song.

Who/What are your influences?

When creating musical arrangements, the members of Signature turn to each other, first and foremost, for ideas on how to make each arrangement unique and our own. Then we pull ideas from the styles of other female a cappella groups, original artists, or talented people on YouTube. We are inspired by songs that allow us to create interesting vocal parts that are appealing to both our singers and our audience.

How did you get your start?

Established in 2007, Signature has accomplished an astounding amount since breaking into UCLA’s a cappella scene. Signature has been proud to perform in the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella (winning awards for Best Arrangement and Best Vocal Percussion), UCLA’s Spring Sing (winning awards for Best Participation), the California A Cappella Festival, and the Los Angeles A Cappella Festival, just to name a few!

What can we expect from you this year?

We cannot wait for auditions for new Signature members this fall! We are excited about adding new songs to our repertoire and arranging many more numbers throughout the year. Signature is also working on recording its second studio album, which is expected to be released sometime in the next year!
