SCA and CAC present: WRITE BACK

The project of prison is a project of invisibility. What is not seen, heard, or felt cannot be altered. It is “out there.” And yet, for thousands of young people across Los Angeles, it is a lived reality. Day after day, night after night.

“Write Back” seeks to make visible these stories and respond in kind. By communicating, we provide solace and reject the idea that the problem of prison is not our own. By bearing witness, we recognize that change is possible.

All writing comes from the brilliant, talented, and kind students at Camp Fred Miller, a juvenile detention center in Malibu.

At the reception, we invite UCLA students to utilize our art making station to create responses that will be compiled and given to students at Fred Miller. Food will be provided, and Critical Resistance Los Angeles, the Incarcerated Youth Tutorial Project, and Project BRITE will be present and tabling.

The event is taking place Apr.14 Thursday 6-9pm at Kerckhoff Art Gallery. For more information, please visit https://www.facebook.com/events/1764675370421749/
