Porn? On-campus??

SCA & CAC has decided to host a porn screening to open a dialogue about sex and sexuality for WorldFest Week. Despite sex being a constant presence, it is rarely discussed openly and honestly amongst all cultures. I, myself, can say that I recognize female sexuality as it is portrayed in porn is overly simplistic and fails to provide an accurate and encompassing depiction of female desire. But I still watch porn and naturally, I enjoy sex. So for me, discussing the moral and patriarchic elements of pornography in an intellectually-minded setting will always be complicated by that fact. Can it really be all that bad if I enjoy it so much? I don’t know but I don’t want to feel embarrassed about discussing things like this either. And so again we come to the purpose of our event: to create an environment where we all feel comfortable about talking about sex and exploring what exactly makes it so taboo.  Five students will share their own stories about their sexuality and their sexual encounters from a cultural perspective. And let’s not all be so serious that we loose sight of the truly ridiculous and comedic elements of Debbie Does Dallas—let’s have some fun.
